North Haven artist Patrick Stone began painting three years ago, first exhibiting his artwork at the North Haven Library Art Show in 2017. A full-time carpenter, he came to painting due to family influences — he cites his grandmother’s practice of painting songbirds on secondhand shingles as what inspires his use of bright colors, and his brother Mike’s talent for drawing boats as his inspiration for subject matter. Stone devotes the Sunday of each week to art-making, observing that painting is his way of “breaking up the monotony of the week.” Using his carpentry skills, he also designs and crafts his own frames. Living and working year-round on the island, his work captures North Haven’s unique and vibrant nautical scene.
